Still experimenting with setups in S4 League. My current defensive setup consists of a Heavy Machine Gun, Handgun, Sentry Gun, and a Shield. I may switch out Handgun for Storm Bat, as I’ll need something to knock opponent ball carriers away from the goal, and I don’t need a secondary gun anyway considering the HMG’s huge ammo magazine. Sometimes I replace Sentry Gun with a well-concealed Senty Nell, to ensure that ball carriers can’t reach the goal without being pulverized.
I just unlocked the Smash Rifle, think I’ll get the Gauss Rifle later to see what it’s like.
Also, the License Test for Shield can go die. You don’t even need Shield to clear it.
On another note, inspired by twiddle’s post on After Burner (II), I decided to give it a shot. I decline to state how well I am doing lest I get banished to the depths of Hell for committing the mortal sin of being a noob, but I will say that there’s no point to the whole barrel roll mechanic, especially with how easy it is to accidentally trigger it.

IMO After Burner is a great stress-relieving game. With the exception of the horrible SMS version, I enjoy playing any of the others available – always fun, always making me shout YEAH when I emerge unharmed form one of those impossible missile raids.
And I think rail shooters are shmups indeed. :)
