What about hitboxes and bullet speed?

"Whereas bullet-dense shooters are about analyzing patterns and finding gaps in them, older shooters are about being alert at all times; blink and you’re very likely to get hit out of nowhere."

I think that sums it up. It is probably harder to play the "regular" shoot-em-ups because of those reasons, but is it more fun?

The problem is, for most people, instead of "wow this game's cool I wanna try it", they're like "THIS GAME'S IMPOSSIBLE I DON'T WANNA PLAY IT EVER."

Their loss, I suppose.

I know I for one wouldn't have started playing them in the first place if it hadn't been for Youtube clips of last boss fights. My reaction wasn't "welp, that's impossible", it was "holy shit I've got to try that."

Chances are those "I can't do that" people weren't ever going to try them anyway.

Your thesis is that more people would play 2d shooters if it weren't for youtube clips of last boss fights.
